The solitaire is a go-to classic that we all know and love. And for good reason--it's timeless, outlasts all trends, can be found in all types of jewelry, and works with any outfit to add an effortless touch of glamour. A solitaire is a single stone, set with intention and purpose, to highlight its individual magic. Each solitaire stone offers it's own unique combination of the 4 C's of the diamond world: cut, color, clarity, and carat weight. Without other supporting diamonds or accent stones, that special combination is free to steal the show!
If it's a stone that stands alone, it's a solitaire and its begging to be noticed! Of course, careful attention must be paid, during stone selection, as the goal is to highlight a stone that can stand on it's own. This means that it should have been properly cut for optimal light refraction, that it should be as close to colorless as possible, that there should be no inclusions visible to the naked eye, and that it's at least a 1/4 carat or larger.
Meeting these requirements however, can be costly for the consumer, as a diamond that scores well in all four of the C's, will also come with a higher price tag. The best way to get around that sticker shock, while still having a solitaire-worthy stone, is to purchase a lab-grown diamond. More on this with our next blog, but it's well worth noting now, that lab-grown diamonds are the only cost-effective alternative to an earth-mined diamond, while still being an actual diamond. As a matter of fact, the chemical composition of a lab-grown diamond is the exact same as that of a diamond that was mined from the earth; the only difference is the origin.
Lab-grown diamonds are significantly less expensive, typically approximately 30-50% cheaper, which means that your lab-grown solitaire, can boast the best of the 4 C's, without the price tag (or the compromise in at least one of the C's) that comparable earth-mined solitaires would require. The bottom line? Bigger, brighter, and all around better bang for your diamond bucks!
